A Survey of Gee's Band Quilts
"A Survey of Gee's Bend Quilts" is a celebration of the artistry of the African-American women of the small community of Gee's Bend, Alabama. Dating from 1920s to 2009 these quilts have been hailed as "some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced" by The New York Times. These works are incredible and will be introduced by two of the quilters themselves on Saturday 10:30am & 1:30pm and Sunday (TBA) Feb 6th & 7th. The exhibit will be up until April 11. Soap for Hope Drive
Please Support This Most Worthy Cause
People First Foundation’s Soap for Hope Drive:
This is our time as caring neighbors, scholar, students, and struggling families to help those families and children in our community who are in need evermore than ourselves; now is the time for all of us to do what we can when we can, now is the time for all of us to change the hearts and minds of the unmindful, the overlooked, and underprivileged; not by our efforts, but the initiative, care, love behind our efforts.
Please read the attachment, information below, and then pass this on to your cohorts, friends, and families (Soap for Hope Drive ends February 28th.)
Many homeless children go to school everyday wearing clothes that are not clean. Often, a big reason that the case is as such is because there is no laundry detergent and/or bleach in the home. We at The People 1st Foundation are trying to change this, but we can't do it alone--we need your efforts and support. The next time you go buy laundry detergent and/or bleach, consider picking up an extra bottle of one, either, or both, and please, donate it to the cause. And please, ask any of the family and friends that you think might help to do the same.
Donations can be dropped off in Laurie Beck's office on the second floor of the Sara Fleischman building (office number 204 E), on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
This type of effort is will to help families even more than will giving them food and/or money. The reason, is because this type of effort not only shows that other people in the world truly care about them, but it reminds them that if they continue working hard through their times of struggle they can be reassured (at least) that they have enough to survive.
We are the solution, and together, we can do anything!
“People we help are not looking for handouts; they want someone to reach out and meet them halfway.”
